Since it is now November, I figured it's time to write a summary post for our Southwest Trip. Also... because we are now onto our next adventure and I am currently writing this in Chiang Mai, Thailand!
Well it was an incredible 36 day road trip experiencing some of the best of the US! Brimming to the top with adventure and miles of smiles! and miles it was ... 5523 miles in all.
It all started out when Kate and I were toying with the idea of camping out of the back of the truck. Well a couple weeks passed and we set out a saturday to build a sweet raised platform in the back of the truck. Complete with a full length sliding drawer, room for 3 removeable storage bins, and 4 seperate storage compartments it provided more than enough storage for our stuff. We even got fancy and covered all of the bedbox with a marine carpet to hide the wooden DIY project :) Turned out looking great! Unfortunately I never took any pictures of the finshed product, but you can see bits and pieces in the photos below. We got a memory foam mattress topper from Wallyworld and pitched the new double sleeping bag on top of that to complete out perfect accomodation for the next month.
Kate bought me a camping shower for my birthday that turned out to be amazing in the desert. It runs off a small footpump that pressurizes the bladder and forces the water out the handheld wand. Leave this baby in the sun 30 minutes and you have a perfect outdoor shower set up complete with hot water!
Funny thing I just realized. We never set up the awning you see below. Not even once on our trip.
The Best Top Collapsible campershell nicely tucked away for Starry Nights in the southwest sky!
A rough map of our route on our trip.
Below I have compiled a spreadsheet of our Daily expenses during the Road Trip:
Not too bad for 36 days of awesomeness!
Can't wait till our next roadtrip. Canada eh?
Note: I did not include the cost of the Best Top Campershell in the spreasheet. That was about $540 Shipped. http://www.bestop.com/
