Well, to put it plainly, we were a little underwhelmed by
Zion. I think we set our expectations
too high. (Everyone said it was the best) Or maybe it’s just that we
live a mere 2.5 hours from Yosemite, which in my opinion outshines Zion. So on our way to Bryce I was prepared for a
little bit less in terms of “Wow” factor.
I was happily surprised.
Bryce Canyon was VERY cool! Upon
nearing the park I could tell I was going to like this place. The colors are great! The formations are unreal. And the hiking was
out of this world! (And nice and Short )
Seeing the Hoodoo’s
(name for the interesting deteriorating rock formations) from the rim of
the canyon is majestic, but being able to get out on the trail see them up
close and personal is what really makes this park special. You must get out a do the hikes. It brings you through and around, between and
above all the different layers and colors.
Hoodoos Galore!
We also explored the Mossy Cave trail as we had been tipped
off by a local about a stellar waterfall in the area. It was super! Check out the pics!
Bryce Canyon is also well known for it’s extra dark sky
scapes which allow for great start viewing at night. The Milky way is like giant smear across the
sky during the night glowing against the black backround. There are Ranger presentations during the
night with telescopes set up for star viewing, but the clouds didn’t want to
cooperate on our particular evening. Oh well…
